My son was diagnosed with severe Aplastic Anemia on April 28, 2006. He was 13 years old. Aplastic Anemia is a life-threatening bone marrow disorder. Aplastic Anemia causes the bone marrow to stop producing red, white and platelet cells that the body needs to survive. About 3 of every 1 million people are diagnosed each year. It is linked to radiation, insecticides/pesticides, and viruses. In many cases, Aplastic Anemia is an autoimmune disorder. Most cases, the cause is unknown.
My son defined tough. He went further than any other unrelated bone marrow recipient with so many complications. We will alwas have a hole in our hearts, but our fight will go on to help find an effective cure for Aplastic Anemia.
