My name is Victoria Yousefi. I came to America from Iran back in the late-1980's, when the new regime took over The Shah Of Iran power and there was a war between Iran and Iraq. I was lucky to escape on my own with my three young children to reach freedom and democracy in America. After we settled in America,my young son Omid at the age of nine was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia dyskeratosis congenita.
It was very tough for me to understand this bone marrow failure blood disease, at that time. I didn't have any knowledge and even the best doctors at NYC Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Hospital also didn't have any experience to treat my son Omid. they told me that any patient before him, they all died from various infections after the had their bone marrow transplant.
They didn't have alot of hope for my son's condition. My son Omid was a true hero and an angel of love. He handled his battle with dignity, hope, faith, optimism and love. A few years after he had a bone marrow transplant and he departed the world symbolically on Valentine's Day-a true sign of love.
Omid's mission and his goal was to find a cure for this devastating blood disease. His mission didn't end, it's just starting with a new book I wrote about him and all his steps and treatments he had gone through. My book is, "Omid's Mission"-A Tribute To My Son, by: PublishAmerica.
As I mentioned in my book, let this book be a "window" for the world to see what patients have to go through with Aplastic Anemia dyskeratosis.
I was honored recently as one of Florida's Best Author Award For 2010 By Palm Beach County Library for the Best Author. As I had mentioned during my speech, I said that I need a hand to bring awareness. Please give me your hands to help support patients, families and caregivers worldwide. Let the world know about Aplastic Anemia Dyskeratosis Congenita.
Sincerely,
Victoria Yousefi
